Pascale Naessens' ceramics
While making a documentary in Tunisia, I came across Sabiha Ayari, a local ceramist who was hard at work. It hit me right in the gut. I felt the passion; it was almost pure jealousy. I wished I could do that too. When I returned home, I went in search of a studio. I took lessons for a number of years from ceramic artist Bie Van Gucht and attended several courses on ceramics, glazing and firing techniques. I started small. My first potter’s wheel stood in the kitchen, much to the annoyance of my husband. But I was absolutely thrilled.
I wanted to make my own tableware line. It’s simply fantastic to eat your own homemade food from your own homemade plate. Besides, I loved color and glazing that was vibrant and vivacious; at that time the choice of tableware was almost always boring and white.
The idea of showing my plates to Serax came later. Serax is a Belgian company, internationally renowned for its artistic tableware and cutting-edge design. I went there with little hope, but the management of the company became quite enthusiastic. This led to the development and production of the ‘Pure’ ceramics tableware line, which became an international success. Housewives and top restaurants like Pure-C, Boury and the world-famous Hakkasan restaurant in London serve their food on plates and dishes designed by Pascale Naessens.
Pascale’s tableware line was launched under the name ‘Pure’ and is distinguished by its color, organic design and vibrant glazing.
